Forest's Edge

Pencil and digital

It's sometimes the case that when I sit down to draw something in my sketchbook I have absolutely no idea of what it is I'm going to draw, even once the drawing is underway. This was the case with this drawing. Eventually, as I put more lines down I started to see trees and the edge of a river or lake. I enjoy this aspect of drawing because it keeps the whole process interesting for me, since I don't know what will emerge on the paper. But the flip side is that it can also be a frustrating experience, since the lack of any clear idea beforehand can lead to aimless and endless doodling with no real artwork to show by the end of it.
