Here's another painting from my recent visit to Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife. When you think of the East Neuk you think of the beautiful coastline and the picturesque fishing villages dotted along it. Pittenweem's harbour area is one of my favourite, and its easy to see why it's such a source of inspiration for many artists. I've never actually painted a fishing boat before - or any boat for that matter - so this was the perfect opportunity to have a go. This particular vessel, the "Arum" caught my eye because of the way it was nestling in the shade against the harbour wall with the sunlight angling down and catching the top of it.

I'm wasn't sure where the name "Arum" comes from. A quick look on Wikipedia told me that it's a genus of about 25 species of flowering plants of the Araceae family. So, there you go - a little bit of botanical knowledge to spice up the blog. Of course, it might have absolutely nothing to do with the name of the boat in question :-)
