16th century Scottish bishop

10 x 6.5 inches
Gouache and watercolour on board

Here's another little illustration inspired by one of my recent visits to Stirling Castle, showing how a mid 16th century bishop in Scotland might have looked. The costumed character at the castle was playing the part of John Hamilton, the Bishop of Dunkeld, who was also the Treasurer of Scotland. You can read more about him, including his fateful end, on this Wiki page.
