Portrait commission: "The Artist"

Another portrait, another Carlisle and (as my commissioner Bert would say) another character of Ireland. This time the gentleman's name is Eric and as you've probably guessed from the painting and the title, Eric is also an artist. In fact, I'm told all the brothers in his family are artistic. I don't know an awful lot about Eric except that he is a painter and has an exhibition coming up later in the year. For me, this was a really enjoyable portrait to do. I like painting folk with hats at the best of times, and the addition of the paintbrush gives the piece a lot of character I think. When I heard that Eric loved the painting I was very pleased.
