A boy builds sandcastles on the beach at Kinghorn in Fife.
I grew up in Dunfermline in Fife, and on sunny weekends in the summertime our parents often took us to the beach, either at Kinghorn or Aberdour. I visited there last weekend and enjoyed a trip down memory lane. It was wonderful to sit and soak up the sunshine, have an ice lolly and watch everyone playing and relaxing by the seaside.
So there's a little bit of 'me' in this painting. It's more detailed than I had originally intended, but I was enjoying painting it so much that I just wanted to keep spending more time on it. I'm very happy with how it turned out. More beach scenes to follow I think!
I love the sensitive handling of skintones and nuances there, really beautiful!
